A Hiker's Hymn

Awakened by the buoyant beams of dawn,
My soul emerges from its slumber deep.
Loosened, lifted, longing to gaze upon
Peaks and cliffs only suggested in sleep,
I climb, drawn by what I feel, hear and see:
A vivid song crescendoing in me,
A timeless hymn, a spirit-melody,
A love requiting nature's fervent plea.
It is a peace which cannot be disturbed,
A wintry-white, whispering wave of grace,
A fury serene, a language unverbed,
Surrounding and filling this mortal vase.
My brimming spirit sings and rejoices:
O for a thousand angelic voices!
