Nineteen

I finally found a way to get away;
I can't believe I'm out here on my own.
Making plans now, dreaming about someday.
I'll write and sing my way through the unknown.

I'm happily nineteen,
And twenty's around the bend.
I'm free; I'm young and lean,
And time is my best friend.
I'm sure I'll find true love;
I'll make my dreams come true.
I'm floating, thinking of
All the cool things I'll do.

I run around Lake Hollingsworth sometimes.
I study hard; I work part-time, as well.
I practice piano and I jot down rhymes.
Perhaps I'll finally transfer to Cornell.

I'm happily nineteen,
And twenty's around the bend.
I'm free; I'm young and lean,
And time is my best friend.
I'm sure I'll find true love;
I'll make my dreams come true.
I'm floating, thinking of
All the cool things I'll do.

And I feel so free; my heart is full of praise—
Tho I miss my brothers and my mom and dad.
But we'll be together for the holidays.
Life is good; why should anyone feel sad?

I'm happily nineteen,
And twenty's around the bend.
I'm free; I'm young and lean,
And time is my best friend.
I'm sure I'll find true love;
I'll make my dreams come true.
I'm floating, thinking of
All the cool things I'll do.

Wind is blowing hard; I'm standing still.
I hope this feeling lasts; I'm sure it will. . .

I'll Take Your Love

If I set my affections on what I think I want,
I'll lose out on love.
If I chase my dark ambitions; if a lie is what I flaunt,
I'll lose out on love.

I'll take your love;
Lead me out of this selfish place.
Without your love,
Life is just a dark, placeless space.
What if set my affections on things above?
Sounds like a plan; I think I'll take your love.

If I run into darkness and tell myself it's light,
I'll lose out on love.
If I sit with the scoffers who tell me wrong is right,
I'll lose out on love.

I'll take your love;
Lead me out of this selfish place.
Without your love,
Life is just a dark, placeless space.
What if set my affections on things above?
Sounds like a plan; I think I'll take your love.

Why do I chase wayward dreams?
Why do I doubt you when they fall apart?
Unstitch these seams; undo my schemes.
Unlace this knotted, untrustworthy heart.

I am broken, but take me anyway.
I am weary, but hear me when I say...

I'll take your love;
Lead me out of this selfish place.
Without your love,
Life is just a dark, placeless space.
What if set my affections on things above?
Sounds like a plan; I think I'll take your love.
